At Mimosa, we have over 400 active ESOL students and almost 130 students who have tested out and are being monitored to ensure their success. When you walk through our hallways you may hear up to 10 different languages being spoken including Amharic, Arabic, Spanish, Chinese, Creole, Vietnamese, Urdu, and Ukrainian.
The English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program is offered to all English learners in Fulton schools who meet the eligibility criteria set by the Georgia DOE. Our goal is for students to be proficient in all five language skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing and comprehension) and to be successful both socially and academically. The ESOL program aids English learners’ success in an English-speaking classroom by addressing all five language skills and building their understanding of our American culture so they can function successfully. Immersion in an English-speaking environment with guidance from the ESOL teacher and accommodations provided by all other school personnel will accomplish these goals.
